Fast with five: garlic flank steak with onion

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbsFlank steak
1 Garlic clove, slivered
1 tspDried basil
1/3 cupBalsamic or red vinegar
2 Onions, thickly sliced
Procedures:
1Trim off any fat from steak.
2Make ?inch deep slits 1 inch apart over top of steak; insert garlic sliver into each.
3Place in shallow dish.
4Sprinkle with basil; pour vinegar over top, turning steak to coat.
5Marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes.
6Meanwhile, arrange onions in centre of lightly greased broiling pan; remove 2 tb of the marinade and brush over onions.
7Bake in 400f 200c oven for 20-25 minutes or until softened.
8Discard marinade, sprinkle steak with ?ts each salt and pepper.
9Place steak on onions; broil for 8 minutes.
10Turn steak and broil for 3-5 minutes longer or until desired doneness.
11Transfer steak and onions to serving platter; tent with goil and let stand for 5 minutes before slicing thinly on the diagonal.
12Pop potatoes and squash halves into the oven while the steak marinates, and serve with a cabbage salad dressed with vinaigrette.
