Dutch vegetable soup with meatballs

Ingredients:
2 Slices stale white bread
1/3 cupMilk
1 lbsGround veal or beef
1 Egg, beaten
2 tspCurry powder
3/4 tspSalt
1/4 tspPepper
1 largeOnion, peeled, minced
1 largeCarrot, scraped, diced
1 largeCelery stalk, cleaned, diced
2 tbspButter or margarine
1 tbspSalad oil
6 cupBeef bouillon
1/4 tspDried thyme or marjoram
Procedures:
1Soak bread in milk in a large bowl until soft; mash.
2Add veal or beef, egg, curry powder, salt, and pepper; mix well.
3Shape into 1 ? balls.
4Saute onion, carrot, and celery in heated butter and oil in a large kettle 5 minutes.
5Add bouillon and thyme or marjoram.
6Bring to a boil.
7Lower heat and cook slowly, covered, 20 minutes.
8Add meatballs and cook about 25 minutes, until vegetables and meatballs are tender
