Ingredients:

| cup | Dried pinto beans, washed | | 2
| cl | Garlic, minced | | 1/2
| liter | Smoked ham, chopped | | 1/2
| cup | Chopped bell pepper | | 2
| tsp | Brown sugar | | 1/4
| tsp | Oregano | | 1
| large | Onion, chopped | | 1
| | Bay leaf | | 2
| cup | Canned chopped tomatoes | | 2
| tsp | Chili powder | | 1/2
| tsp | Dry mustard |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cover beans with water and let soak overnight. | | 2 | Drain beans, discarding soaking water. | | 3 | In crock pot, cover beans with fresh water and add remaining ingredients. | | 4 | Cook on low for 6-8 hours, until beans are tender. | | 5 | Taste beans, add salt if necessary (don"t add salt at the beginning of cooking time - it will make the beans tough!) |
