Apple date strudel

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cupAll purpose flour, sifted
1 tspDouble acting baking powder
1/2 tspSalt
1 Egg, beaten
Butter or margarine
12 Zwieback, finely rolled
-about ?cup crumbs
1/2 cupChopped walnuts or pecans
4 cupCooking apples
8 ozPitted dates, finely snipped
1/2 cupSugar
1/4 cupLemon juice
1 tspCinnamon
Procedures:
1Sift first 3 ingredients into bowl.
2Add egg and ?cup butter, melted.
3Then add ?cup ice water.
4Stir until blended, then knead to smooth ball on lightly floured board.
5Cover with towel and let rest at least ?hour.
6Saute crumbs in 2 tb butter until lightly toasted, add nuts and set aside.
7Peel and core apples, cut in wedges, then in thin crosswise slices.
8Mix with next 4 ingredients.
9On lightly floured board, roll dough to a 24x16 inch rectangle.
10Brush with 2 tb butter, melted.
11Sprinkle with crumb mixture to within 1 inch of edges.
12Spread evenly with apple mixture.
13Then roll from long side as for jelly roll and seal ends.
14Shape in horseshoe and put seam down, on greased baking sheet.
15Melt ?c butter and brush some on strudel.
16Bake in hot oven 400 about 40 minutes.
17Brush occasionally with remaining butter.
18Serve warm in slices
