Apple-cinnamon scones

Ingredients:
1/2 cupAll-purpose flour
1/2 cupWhole wheat flour
1 1/2 tspBaking powder
1/2 tspGround cinnamon
1/3 cupMargarine
1 smallApple, peeled and cored
1 cupQuick-cooking rolled oats
2 Egg whites
2 tbspApple juice or skim milk
2 tbspHoney
Skim milk
Procedures:
1Combine the flours, baking powder, and cinnamon in a bowl.
2Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3Chop the apple.
4Stir in the apple and rolled oats.
5Add the egg whites, apple juice or milk, and honey; mix well.
6The dough will be sticky.
7Spray a baking sheet with nonstick coating.
8Pat dough into a 7-inch circle on the baking sheet with floured hands.
9Use a long, thin-bladed spatula to cut into 12 wedges.
10Separate the wedges, leaving ?inch between them.
11Brush with a little skim milk.
12Bake in a 400°F oven until golden, 10 to 12 minutes.
13Serve warm.
14Makes 12 scones.
15Orange-cinnamon scones.
16Prepare the apple-cinnamon scones as above, except stir 1 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel into the flour mixture and substitute ?cup currants for the apple and 3 tablespoons orange juice for the apple juice.
17Shape and bake as directed.
