Ingredients:
1 cupYellow cornmeal
1 cupFlour
4 tbspSugar
1 tspSalt
4 tspBaking powder
1 Egg beaten
1 cupMilk
2 tbspShortening, melted
Procedures:
1Grease a square baking pan and preheat the oven at 400°F.
2Mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in a large bowl.
3Make a well in the center and add the egg, milk and melted shortening.
4Beat very well until the ingredients are thoroughly blended.
5Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake until risen and golden brown on top.as a variation, add ?cup grated sharp cheese.
6Cut into squares to serve
