Buttermilk coffee cake

Ingredients:
3 cupFLOUR
2 cupSUGAR
1 tspCINNAMON
1/4 tspGROUND CLOVES
2 1/2 tspBAKING SODA
1 cupBUTTERMILK
1 cupRAISINS OR CHOPPED NUTS **
Procedures:
1** -- optional ~--------------------------------------------------------------------- ~- in a large bowl combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, salt and baking soda.
2Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
3Save one cup of the mixture for topping.
4Stir in buttermilk, mixing until well combined.
5Add raisins or nuts if desired.
6Pour into greased pan ( 9" x 13" ) and sprinkle with topping.
7Bake at 325 deg f. for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
8This coffee cake can be made ahead and frozen.
9Keeps well when frozen
