Golden split pea and sweet potato soup

Ingredients:
1 tbspVegetable oil
1 Onion, chopped
1 Jalapeno chili
-- seeded and minced
1 tbspMinced fresh ginger
2 tspGround cumin
2 tspGround coriander
1/2 tspTurmeric
1/4 tspGround cinnamon
7 cupWater (or more)
1 largeSweet potato, peeled, diced
1 1/2 cupDried yellow split peas
6 tbspNonfat yogurt
6 Lime slices
Fresh cilantro, chopped
Procedures:
1Heat oil in heavy large saucepan over medium-high heat.
2Add onion and chili; saute until tender, about 5 minutes.
3Stir in ginger and next 4 ingredients and cook 1 minute.
4Mix in 7 cups water, sweet potato and peas.
5Bring mixture to boil.
6Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer until potato and split peas are very tender, about 1-?hours.
7Whisk soup vigorously for smoother texture.
8Thin with additional water if necessary.
9Season with salt and pepper.
10(can be prepared 1 day ahead.
11Refrigerate).
12Return soup to simmer.
13Ladle soup into bowls.
14Top each with 1 tablespoon yogurt, lime slice and cilantro and serve.
