Keik me mila (apple cake)

Ingredients:
2 cupThickly sliced, pared, apples
Water as needed
A little lemon juice
2 1/2 cupFlour
2 tspBaking powder
3/4 cupButter
1 1/2 cupSugar
4 ea Eggs, separated
1 tspCinnamon
2 tspSugar for sprinkling
Procedures:
1Put apples into water with lemon juice.
2Sift flour and baking powder together.
3Cream butter and sugar until very light, and add the egg yolks to them, one at at time, beating well after each addition.
4In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff but not dry.
5Lightly fold flour and egg whites alternately into the batter with a wooden spoon.
6Butter a pan heavily, and dust it with flour and sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar.
7Pour the batter over the apples.
8Bake in a preheated 300°F. oven for 45 min. cool completely before removing the cake from the pan
