Greek spiced syrup cake

Ingredients:
3/4 cupButter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cupSugar
6 Eggs, separated
1 cupPlain yogurt
2 3/4 cupCake flour
1 tbspBaking powder
1/2 tspSalt
1 tspBaking soda
2 tbspRum OR
1 1/2 tspWater mixed with
1 tspVanilla extract
1 tspGrated lemon rind
1/2 cupAlmonds, finely chopped
===CINNAMON SYRUP===
1 cupSugar
1/2 cupHoney
1 cupWater
1 Cinnamon stick
2 tbspLemon juice
2 tbspRum OR
1 tspVanilla extract
Procedures:
1Source: armenian and selected favorite recipes cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
2Beat in egg yolks, one at a time.
3Blend in yogurt.
4Sift flour and measure again with baking powder, salt and soda.
5Add to creamed mixture along with rum or water/vanilla combination, lemon rind and almonds.
6Blend until thoroughly mixed.
7Whip egg whites until they hold short peaks, fold into batter.
8Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
9Bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) for 50-55 minutes or until cake tests done when toothpick is inserted.
10Let cake cool in pan 10 minutes then turn onto a serving plate with a rim.
11Pour the slightly warm or cold cinnamon syrup over cake slowly, letting it seep into the cake.
12The cake should absorb all the liquid.
13Decorate if desired with whipped cream.
14Cinnamon syrup: ======================================================= ================== mix together sugar, honey, water and cinnamon in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
15Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
16Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and rum or vanilla extract.
17Let cool until at least lukewarm before using.
18Discard cinnamon stick
