Ingredients:
FILLING
2 cupC and H Powdered Sugar
-- unsifted
1 1/2 cupBlanched almonds, ground
-- (2 cups)
1 Egg white
2 tbspWater
CRUST
2 cupAll-purpose flour
2 tspBaking powder
1/2 cupC and H Powdered Sugar
-- unsifted
1 cupButter or margarine
1/2 tspVanilla
1 Egg
Procedures:
1Filling: combine sugar and ground almonds and mix thoroughly.
2Add egg white and mix.
3Stir in water to thick consistency.
4Set aside.
5Crust: combine flour, baking powder and sugar.
6Cut butter into flour mixture with pastry blender until evenly distributed.
7Mix vanilla with egg; stir into flour mixture.
8Set aside ?cup dough.
9Press remaining dough evenly into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
10Spread marzipan over dough.
11Form remaining dough into ?inch strips and arrange in large lattice pattern over filling.
12Bake in 350°F oven 35 minutes.
13Cool completely before cutting into 36 bars (about 2-inches by 1-?inches).
