Grandmother's Chicken Stew

Ingredients:
1 large fresh chicken, cut up
1 tbspvegetable oil
3 cuphot water
1/2 tspsalt
1 tspsalt
2 medium sized carrots, cut into 1 inch slices(about 1 cup)
2 large potatoes, cut into 1-1/2 inch slices(about 1-1/4 cups)
1 medium sized turnip, cut into 1-inch slices(about 1 cup)
1 stalk celery, cut into 1 inch slices (about 1 cup)
1/4 cupchopped onions
1 cube chicken bouillon cubes
1 tspsalt
1 bay leaf
1/2 cupcold water
2 tbspall purpose flour
Procedures:
1In a Skillet, pan-fry the chicken in oil for about 15 minutes or until chicken is brown.
2Add the hot water, salt and a pinch of pepper
3Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
4Cover and simmer for about 2 hours or until chicken is almost tender.
5Stir in carrots, potato, turnip, celery, onion, chicken cube, salt and the bay leaf.
6Cover and simmer about 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
7Remove bay leaf.
8Shake cold water and the flour in tightly covered container.
9Gradually stir into stew.
10. Heat to boil, stirring constantly.
11.Boil and stir 1 minute, reduce heat.
12. Cook uncovered 10 minutes.
13. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer.
