Traditional rolled sugar cookies

Ingredients:
3/4 cupButter
3/4 cupSugar
1 eachEgg, large
1 tbspGrated lemon peel
1 tspVanilla
2 1/4 cupFlour
1/4 tspSalt
1 eachWater
Procedures:
1Cream butter in a large bowl.
2Add sugar, beat until light and fluffy.
3Beat in egg, lemon peel, and vanilla until well blended.
4Gradually mix in flour and salt.
5Beat in water, two drops at a time, until the dough starts to pull from sides of bowl.
6Shape dough into a large disk.
7Wrap in plastic wrap and regrigerate for 2 to 3 hours.
8Preheat oven to 350 deg f and roll dough out on a floured surface, to 1/8 inch thickness.
9Cut with desired cutters, dipped in flour, and place on buttered cookie sheets.
10Paint with tempera edible paints and bake 10 to 12 minutes.
11Carefully remove cookies from baking sheet.
12Cool completely on wire rack.
13Edible tempera paints:lightly beat 2 large egg yolks and divide equaly between 5 small containers.
14Add liquid food coloring to each mixture as desired for color.
15Apply color with small brush, before baking cookies.
