| 1 | In bowl stir together flour,nutmeg,soda, and salt; set aside. |
| 2 | In large bowl beat butter 30 seconds. |
| 3 | Add sugar, egg yolks, sour cream and vanilla. |
| 4 | Beat until well combined. |
| 5 | Add half flour mixture, beat until combined. |
| 6 | Stir in remaining flour mixture with a wooden spoon. |
| 7 | Divide dough in half. |
| 8 | If necessary, cover and chill dough until easy to handle (about 1 hour) on floured surface, roll dough, half at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness. |
| 9 | Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. |
| 10 | Place on ungreased cookie sheets. |
| 11 | Bake in 350f oven 5 to 7 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned. |
| 12 | Transfer to wire racks, cool. |
| 13 | If desired, glaze with powdered sugar glaze. |
| 14 | To glaze cookies, dip top surface of cookies into glaze. |
| 15 | Let excess glaze drip from cookies and dry on wire rack placed over waxed paper. |
| 16 | Using small paintbrush, paint designs on each cookie with food coloring, if desired. |
| 17 | Makes 72 cookies. |
| 18 | Powdered sugar glaze: in bowl, combine 2 cups sifted powdered sugar and ?tsp. vanilla. |
| 19 | Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk to glazing consistency. |
| 20 | Add milk to thin, if necessary |
