| 1 | Heat oven to 375°F. |
| 2 | Mix sugar, shortening, vanilla and eggs. |
| 3 | Stir in remaining ingredients except raisins. |
| 4 | Stir in raisins. |
| 5 | Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 1-inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. |
| 6 | Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. |
| 7 | Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. |
| 8 | Makes about 4 dozen cookies; 75 calories per cookie. |
| 9 | Note: if using self-rising flour, omit baking soda, baking powder and salt. |
| 10 | Use seedless raisins, not seeded, in this recipe. |
| 11 | Seedless raisins are grown without seeds, whereas seeded raisins have had their seeds removed. |
| 12 | For variety, try white raisins. |
