Robb's mincemeat bars

Ingredients:
3/4 cupWater
1 9-oz pkg condensed mincemeat
3/4 cupShortening
1/2 cupGranulated sugar
1/3 cupMolasses
1/4 cupAll-purpose flour
1/2 cupRolled oats
Powder sugar (optional)
Procedures:
1For filling, in a saucepan bring water to boiling.
2Add mincemeat; reduce heat.
3Cover and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring often.
4Cool.
5in a large bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds.
6Gradually add granulated sugar, beating till fluffy.
7Beat in molasses.
8Add flour; beat till combined.
9Use a wooden spoon to stir in oats.
10press one/half of the oatmeal mixture onto the bottom of a greased 9x9x2-inch baking pan.
11Spread mincemeat filling onto oatmeal mixture.
12Drop remaining mixture by teaspoonsfuls onto filling.
13Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or till light brown.
14Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
15If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
16Cut into diamonds or bars.
17Makes 24 servings.
