| 1 | Pour enough boiling water over raisins to cover them. |
| 2 | Cover and let stand 10 minutes. |
| 3 | Beat shortening and sugar together until creamy. |

| 5 | drain raisins, reserving ?cup liquid. |
| 6 | Dissolve soda in this liquid. |
| 7 | Sift together flour, salt and spices. |
| 8 | Add to creamed mixture alternately with raisin liquid; blend well. |
| 9 | Stir in raisins and oats. |
| 10 | drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cooky sheets. |
| 11 | Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F). |
| 12 | 12 to 15 minutes. |
