Ingredients:

| oz | Cream cheese, softened | | 1
| cup | Sugar | | 1
| | Egg | | 1
| tsp | Almond extract | | 2 1/2
| cup | Flour, all purpose | | 1/4
| tsp | Baking soda | | 1/2
| tsp | Salt | | 1 3/4
| cup | Pecans, finely chopped | | 36
| | Maraschino cherries | | | -halved |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cream shortening and cream cheese in a large mixing bowl; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. | | 2 | Add egg; beat well. | | 3 | Stir in almond extract. | | 4 | . | | 5 | Sift together flour, soda and salt in a medium mixing bowl; add to creamed mixture, beating well. | | 6 | Chill 1 hour. | | 7 | . | | 8 | Shape dough into 1 inch balls; roll in pecans. | | 9 | Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. | | 10 | Gently press a cherry half in center of each cookie. | | 11 | Bake at 350 °F for 12-15 minutes. | | 12 | Remove to wire racks to cool. | | 13 | Store in airtight containers in refrigerator up to 1 week. | | 14 | Yield 6 dozen |
