Ingredients:
3/4 cupButter (or margarine)
-softened
3/4 cupSolid shortening
-(e.g. Crisco)
1 cupSugar
2 tbspOrange peel, grated
2 Eggs
4 cupFlour, all-purpose
Red cinnamon candies
-(optional)
Green food coloring
-(optional)
Procedures:
1Heat oven to 400 °F.
2Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, sugar, orange peel and eggs.
3Blend in flour.
4Color with green food coloring, if desired.
5shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into ropes, each about 6 inches long and ?inch in diameter.
6form each rope into a circle, bringing one end over the other and through into a single knot.
7Let about ?inch extend at each end.
8Place on ungreased baking sheet.
9Press in red cinnamon candies, if desired.
10bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not brown.
11Immediately remove from baking sheet.
