Peanut butter and jelly cookies

Ingredients:
1/2 cupGranulated sugar
1/2 cupPacked brown sugar
1/2 cupPeanut butter
1/4 cupShortening
1/4 cupMargarine or butter
-softened
1 Egg
1 1/4 cupAll-purpose four*
3/4 tspBaking soda
1/2 tspBaking powder
1/2 cupFinely chopped peanuts
Jelly or jam
*if using self-rising flour
--- omit
Baking soda and baking
-powder.
Procedures:
1Recipe by: betty crocker"s cookbook mix sugars, peanut butter, shortening, margarine and egg.
2Stir in remaining ingredients.
3Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
4Heat oven to 375 degrees.
5Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
6Roll balls in chopped peanuts.
7Place about 3 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
8Press thumb into center of each.
9Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until set but not hard.
10Spoon small amount of jelly or jam into thumbprint.
11About 3-?dozen cookies; 90 calories per cookie.
