Ingredients:

| | Orange, grated peel | | 1/4
| cup | Orange juice | | 1/2
| cup | Chopped nutmeats | | | CRUMB BASE | | 1
| cup | Sifted all-purpose flour | | 1/2
| tsp | Soda | | 1/2
| tsp | Salt | | 1
| cup | Quaker Oats, uncooked | | | -- (quick or old-fashioned) | | 1
| cup | Brown sugar, firmly packed | | 1/2
| cup | Butter or margarine, melted |

Procedures:
| 1 | For filling, combine dates, sugar, orange peel and orange juice in medium-sized saucepan. | | 2 | Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally until thickened. | | 3 | Cool. | | 4 | Stir in nutmeats. | | 5 | For base, sift together flour, soda and salt. | | 6 | Add oats and sugar; mix well. | | 7 | Stir in butter; mix until crumbly. | | 8 | Firmly press 2/3 of mixture into greased 8-inch square baking pan. | | 9 | Spread filling evenly over crumb base. | | 10 | Top with remaining crumb mixture; pack lightly. | | 11 | Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F). | | 12 | 30 to 35 minutes. | | 13 | Cool; cut in bars. |
