Mother's filled butter rings (christmas)

Ingredients:
1 cupButter
1/2 cupSugar
3 cupFlour
1/2 tspSalt
1 tspVanilla
Apricot preserves or other>>
-flavor of your choice.
Powdered Sugar
Procedures:
1Cream butter and sugar until light.
2Add flour and salt.
3Chill slightly and roll 1/8" thick between wax paper sheets.
4Roll only a small amount of dough at a time.
5Using a 2 ? cookie cutter, cut cookies.
6Cut center out of half of cookies (i use my thimble to cut centers).
7Bake all cookies on ungreased sheets at 400°F for 8-10 minutes or less, until very lightly browned.
8Cool on wire racks.
9Spread whole cookies with preserves, piled higher in center.
10Top with cookie ring.
11Sprinkle with 4x sugar.
12Store in tin box between layers of wax paper.
