| 1 | Cream butter and sugar until light. |
| 2 | Add flour and salt. |
| 3 | Chill slightly and roll 1/8" thick between wax paper sheets. |
| 4 | Roll only a small amount of dough at a time. |
| 5 | Using a 2 ? cookie cutter, cut cookies. |
| 6 | Cut center out of half of cookies (i use my thimble to cut centers). |
| 7 | Bake all cookies on ungreased sheets at 400°F for 8-10 minutes or less, until very lightly browned. |
| 8 | Cool on wire racks. |
| 9 | Spread whole cookies with preserves, piled higher in center. |
| 10 | Top with cookie ring. |
| 11 | Sprinkle with 4x sugar. |
| 12 | Store in tin box between layers of wax paper. |
