Ingredients:

| cup | Flour, sift before measurin | | 1/4
| tsp | Salt | | 2
| tsp | Baking soda | | 1
| tsp | Ginger | | 1
| tsp | Cinnamon | | 1/2
| tsp | Ground cloves | | 3/4
| cup | Shortening | | 1
| cup | Brown sugar, firmly packed | | 1/4
| tsp | Mint extract | | 1
| | Egg | | 1/4
| cup | Molasses | | 1/4
| cup | Granulated sugar |

Procedures:
| 1 | Sift flour again with the salt, soda and spices. | | 2 | Thoroughly cream together the shortening, brown sugar and mint extract. | | 3 | Beat in the egg until light and fluffy. | | 4 | Add molasses; mix well. | | 5 | Mix in dry ingredients until well blended. | | 6 | Chill at least 2 hours. | | 7 | Shape into balls the size of walnuts. | | 8 | Roll in granulated sugar, and place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. | | 9 | Bake in a 350 degrees oven until crisp and browned, about 15 minutes. | | 10 | Wis/gramma |
