Ingredients:
1 cupSugar
Few grains salt
1 cupChopped nuts
1/3 cupWater
1 Beaten egg white
40 Saltines
Procedures:
1Combine sugar, water, and salt.
2Boil to soft ball stage (236°F).
3Pour slowly, beating constantly, over stiffly beaten egg white.
4Beat until stiff enough to hold its shape when dropped from a spoon.
5Pile lightly on saltines.
6Sprinkle with nuts.
7Place on baking sheet.
8Brown in slow oven (325°F).
9Chopped raisins may be substituted for, or used with the nuts.
