Liz's christmas candy cane cookies

Ingredients:
1 cupButter
1 cupPowdered sugar
1 Egg
1 tbspPeppermint extract
1 tbspVanilla extract
2 1/2 cupAll-purpose flour
1 tbspSalt
1/2 tbspRed food coloring
Procedures:
1Mix together butter, sugar, egg, and extracts thoroughly.
2Stir in sifted flour and salt.
3Divide dough in half.
4Blend red food coloring into one half of the dough.
5Cover the two pieces of dough and refrigerate for 4 hours.
6Preheat oven to 375°F.
7For each cookie, roll 1 teaspoon of dough from each half back and forth on lightly floured surface into 4" rope.
8Place 1 red and 1 white rope side by side; press together lightly and twist.
9Place on ungreased cookie sheet and curve down top of rope to form handle of cane.
10Bake 9 minutes.
11Watch closely, as they have a tendanacy to brown quickly
