| 1 | Heat oven to 350°F. |
| 2 | Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. |
| 3 | In large mixer bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. |
| 4 | Gradually add flour mixture, beating well. |
| 5 | Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. |
| 6 | Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. |
| 7 | Bake 8 to 10 minutes or just until set. |
| 8 | Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. |
| 9 | Cool completely. |
| 10 | About 4-?dozen cookies. |
