Ingredients:

| cup | Sifted all-purpose flour | | 1
| tsp | Baking powder | | 1/2
| tsp | Soda | | 1/2
| tsp | Salt | | 2
| tsp | Ginger | | 1/2
| tsp | Allspice | | 1/2
| tsp | Cinnamon | | 1/2
| cup | Shortening, soft | | 1/2
| cup | Brown sugar, firmly packed | | 2
| | Eggs | | 1/2
| cup | Light molasses | | 1
| cup | Cooked oatmeal, cooled* |

Procedures:
| 1 | Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices into bowl. | | 2 | Add remaining ingredients. | | 3 | Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. | | 4 | Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cooky sheets. | | 5 | Bake in preheated moderate oven (375°F). | | 6 | 12 to 15 minutes. | | 7 | Remove from cooky sheets; cool. | | 8 | Sprinkle with confectioners" sugar, if desired. | | 9 | *note: cook quaker oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked) according to package directions. |
