| 1 | Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and salt. |
| 2 | Stir in egg, molasses and vinegar. |
| 3 | Beat well. |
| 4 | Sift dry ingredients; stir into molasses mixture. |
| 5 | Chill about 2 hrs. |
| 6 | On lightly floured surface roll to 1/8" thickness. |
| 7 | Cut with cookie cutter. |
| 8 | Place 1" apart on greased cookie sheet. |
| 9 | Make eyes and buttons with raisins. |
| 10 | Bake in moderate (375 deg). |
| 11 | Oven for about 6 minutes. |
| 12 | Cool slightly and remove from sheet. |
| 13 | Allow to finish cooling on wire racks. |
| 14 | Store in tightly covered tin. |
| 15 | Keeps well for 3-4 weeks. |
| 16 | Note: i use a 4-in. |
| 17 | Cutter. |
| 18 | For smaller men, you may need to reduce the baking time by a minute or so. |
