Ingredients:

| cup | Butter, softened | | 1 1/2
| cup | Sugar | | 2
| | Eggs | | 2
| tsp | Vanilla | | 2
| cup | All-purpose flour | | 2/3
| cup | Cocoa powder | | 3/4
| tsp | Baking soda | | 1/4
| tsp | Salt | | 2
| cup | Semi-sweet chocolate chips | | 1/2
| cup | Chopped nuts (optional) |

Procedures:
| 1 | Heat oven to 350°F. | | 2 | In large mixer bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. | | 3 | Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add to butter mixture. | | 4 | Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. | | 5 | Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. | | 6 | Bake 8 to 10 minutes or just until set. | | 7 | Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. | | 8 | Cool completely. | | 9 | Makes about 4 ?dozen cookies. |
