Ingredients:
12 ozSemisweet chocolate pieces
-- divided
1 cupMargarine or butter
-- softened
3/4 cupBrown sugar, firmly packed
1 Egg
1 tspVanilla
1 1/4 cupAll-purpose flour
2 tspBaking powder
1/4 tspBaking soda
1/4 tspSalt (optional)
2 cupQuaker Oats, uncooked
-- (quick or old-fashioned)
Procedures:
1Heat oven to 350°F.
2In small saucepan, melt half the chocolate pieces (1 cup) over low heat; cool.
3Beat margarine and sugar until creamy.
4Blend in melted chocolate, egg and vanilla.
5Gradually add combined dry ingredients except oats; mix well.
6Stir in oats and remaining 1 cup chocolate pieces.
7Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
8Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until set.
9Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack.
10Store tightly covered.

12Press dough evenly onto bottom of greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
