| 1 | Have dates at room temperature. |
| 2 | Slice thin and break up in pan. |
| 3 | Combine dates, water, peel & juices in saucepan. |

| 5 | Cook over low heat stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 10 min. cool. |
| 6 | Measure flour into large bowl. |
| 7 | Add remaining ingredients except margarine. |
| 8 | Stir well to blend. |
| 9 | Cut in margarine until particles are the size of peas. |
| 10 | Press with the back of a fork. |
| 11 | Spread half crumb mixture in greased 8 x 8" pan. |
| 12 | Press down. |
| 13 | Spread cooled date filling evenly. |
| 14 | Cover with remaining crumbs, pat lightly. |
| 15 | Bake at 375f 25-30 minutes until golden. |
| 16 | Cool in pan on rack. |
| 17 | Cut into 18 bars. |
