Ingredients:
2 1/4 cupCake flour
1 tspBaking soda
1 tspSalt
1/4 cupBaking cocoa
1 1/2 cupSugar
1 1/2 cupOil
2 Eggs
2 tspTo 1 oz of red food color
1 tspVanilla
1 tspWhite vinegar
1 cupButtermilk
Frosting:
1 pack8 oz cream cheese
1 Stick butter
1 lbsBox powdered sugar
1 tspVanilla
Milk as needed
Procedures:
1Cream shortening; add sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well.
2Make paste of cocoa and coloring; add to creamed mixture. Add salt, flour and vanilla alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.
3Sprinkle soda over vinegar; pour vinegar over batter. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
4Bake in 3 8-inch pans or 2 9-inch pans for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
