Ingredients:
CAKE
2 cupSugar
2 cupFlour
1 tspBaking soda
1 cupMargarine (2 sticks)
4 tspCocoa, generous
1 cupWater
1/2 cupButtermilk
2 Egg, beaten
1 pinchSalt
FROSTING
1/2 cupMargarine
4 tspCocoa, generous
6 tspButtermilk
1 lbsSugar, confectioners
1 tspVanilla
1 cupNuts, chopped, or to taste
Procedures:
1Cake: in a mixing bowl, mix sugar, flour and soda together.
2In a saucepan, melt margarine; stir in cocoa and water and bring to a boil.
3Pour hot mixture over dry ingredients; stir well.
4Mix in buttermilk, eggs and salt.
5Pour into a greased jelly roll pan.
6Bake at 400 °F.
7For about 15 minutes, until top springs back when touched.
8frosting: in same saucepan used for cake, melt margarine.
9Stir in cocoa and buttermilk and bring to a rapid boil.
10Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and vanilla; blend thoroughly.
11Stir in nuts.
12Spread over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
13Be prepared to clean up some drips.
14if there are kids around, let them clean up the drips ~ this frosting is like fudge! the frosting is so good ~ it"s almost like the cake exists just to give a base to the frosting.
15Mom cuts the frosting recipe down (about in half) but i like it just the way it is - lots.
