| | Slices (Round) Bread | | | -Toasted | | 2 1/2
| lbs | Mild White Cheddar, Sliced | | | -Thin |

Procedures:
| 1 | Saute the onions, butter and bay leaves in a large skillet until the onions are transparent. | | 2 | Combine the onion mixture with the consomme, water, steak (hp) sauce, worcestershire sauce, sherry, salt and pepper in a large saucepan. | | 3 | Bring to a boil. | | 4 | Reduce heat to a simmer. | | 5 | Simmer for 5 minutes. | | 6 | Fill each serving bowl only ?full. | | 7 | Float a toasted bread slice on each. | | 8 | Cover the bread with cheese slices (about ?lb of cheese per bowl). | | 9 | Place the bowls under the broiler until the cheese melts and turns golden brown. | | 10 | Serve hot. | | 11 | joel ehrlich on rec.food.cooking |
