Ingredients:
| 1/2
| cup | Shortening | | 1/2
| cup | Sugar | | 1
| | Egg | | 1
| cup | Molasses, light preferably | | 3
| cup | All-purpose flour | | 1 1/2
| tsp | Soda | | 1/2
| tsp | Salt | | 1
| tsp | Cinnamon | | 1
| tsp | Ginger | | 1/2
| tsp | Ground cloves | | 1
| cup | Hot water |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cream together shortening and sugar. | | 2 | Beat in the egg, then the molasses. | | 3 | Sift together the dry ingredients; stir into molasses mixture. | | 4 | Gradually add the hot water, beating until smooth. | | 5 | line muffin pans with paper baking cups. | | 6 | Fill 2/3 full. | | 7 | Bake at 350 °F for 20-25 minutes or till done. | | 8 | Touch lightly with finger - done if it bounces back. | | 9 | note: my extra special muffins! |
