California gold bars

Ingredients:
1 cupC and H Golden Brown Sugar
-- firmly packed
1 cupButter or margarine
1 Egg
1 tspVanilla
1 3/4 cupAll-purpose flour
1 cupChopped walnuts
1/2 cupApricot jam
Procedures:
1Beat together sugar, butter, egg and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
2Stir in flour and nuts.
3Spoon half the batter in a greased 9-inch square pan; spread evenly.
4Spread batter evenly with jam.
5Cover jam with remaining batter.
6Bake in 325 degree oven 50 minutes.
7Cool 10 minutes.
8Cut into 32 bars (1 x 2 inches).
