| tsp | Baking Powder | | 3/4
| tsp | Baking Soda | | 1
| tsp | Salt | | 3
| tbsp | Sugar | | 1 1/2
| tsp | Caraway Seed | | 3
| tbsp | Shortening | | 2/3
| cup | Golden Raisins - Plumped | | 1
| cup | Buttermilk | | 2
| tbsp | Melted Butter |

Procedures:
| 1 | * to plump raisins: place raisins in a small saucepan and just cover with hot water. | | 2 | Simmer until raisins have absorbed the water. | | 3 | Set aside. | | 4 | Preheat oven to 350°F. | | 5 | Blend the flour and the next five ingredients. | | 6 | Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender until well blended. | | 7 | Mix in raisins. | | 8 | Add buttermilk all at one time, mix lightly to a soft dough. | | 9 | Turn the dough into a greased 9-inch round layer cake pan. | | 10 | Cut a cross into the top about 2/3 into the loaf. | | 11 | Brush top with melted butter and sprinkle with 4 teaspoons additional sugar. | | 12 | Bake 40 minutes or until brown. | | 13 | Makes 1 loaf. |
