La madeleine's tomato basil soup

Ingredients:
4 cupTomatoes, peeled, cored &
. chopped
. *OR*
4 cupCanned whole tomatoes, crush
4 cupTomato juice
14 Bay leaves, washed
1 cupHeavy cream
1/4 lbsButter, unsalted
1/4 tspBlack peppercorns, cracked
Salt to taste
Procedures:
1Note: may use 2 cups chicken stock and 2 cups tomato juice instead of all tomato juice.
2Combine the tomatoes, juice and stock (if used) in a saucepan.
3Simmer for at least 30 minutes.
4Puree, along with the basil leaves, in small batches, in a blender or food processor.
5return to the saucepan and add cream and butter, while stirring, over low heat.
6Garnish with more basil leaves.
7serve with your favorite la madeleine (read that french) bread.
