Sourdough fudge brownies

Ingredients:
1/3 cupButter or margarine
1 cupSugar
2 (1oz) squares
Semisweet chocolate
1 Egg, beaten
3/4 cupAll-purpose flour
1/2 cupStarter
1/2 tspBaking soda
1 tspVanilla
1/2 tspSalt
1/2 cupChopped
Walnuts or pecans
Procedures:
1Grease a 9 inch square baking pan; set aside.
2Preheat oven to 375°F.
3In a small saucepan, melt butter or margarine and chocolate over low heat; set aside to cool.
4In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, salt and sugar; set aside.
5Stir egg, sourdough starter and vanilla into cooled chocolate mixture.
6Beat until blended.
7Stir into flour mixture until blended.
8Fold in nuts.
9Spread in prepared pan.
10For a more even surface after baking, make batter higher in center of pan than on sides.
11Bake in preheated oven 30 to 35 minutes or until edge begins to pull away from pan.
12Cut and remove from pan.
13Makes 12 to 16 brownies.
