| 6 | Add 6 cups of water. |
| 7 | Let this mixture stand 48 hours. |
| 8 | Heat 6 cups of water, barley, cinnamon, and cloves to boiling; reduce heat. |
| 9 | Cover and cook until barley is tender; about 1 hr. |
| 10 | Drain well and rinse under running cold water. |
| 11 | Stir barley, brown sugar, and 2 cups water into pineapple mixture. |
| 12 | Let stand 48 hours. |
| 13 | Strain through cheesecloth and refrigerate until cold. |
| 14 | Serve over ice, if desired |
