Almond butter toffee

Ingredients:
1 cupButter or margarine
1 cupGranulated sugar
1/3 cupPacked brown sugar
2 tbspWater
1 cupSliced unblanched almonds
1/2 tspBaking soda
1/3 cupSemisweet chocolate pieces
1/2 cupMock Pistachios* (optional)
Procedures:
1*see recipe for mock pistachios grease 13x9x2" baking pan; set aside.
2In 3-quart saucepan melt butter.
3Add sugars and water and mix well.
4Bring to boil, stirring constantly.
5Place cany thermometer insyrup and when it reaches 260°F, stir in almonds.
6Boil to 300f (hard-crack stage), stirring occasionally.
7Remove from heat; stir in soda.
8Working rapidly, pour candy into greased pan, top with chocolate pieces and let stand a few minutes until melted.
9Spread chocolate evenly, then sprinkle with mock pistachios.
10Cool in pan on rack.
11To serve, break in pieces.
12Store airtight with waxed paper between layers in cool, dry place 4 weeks.
13Makes about 1-?pounds.
