Armenian nutmeg cake

Ingredients:
2 cupFirmly packed brown sugar
2 cupPlain flour
2 tspBaking powder
1 tspBaking soda
1 tspSalt
125 gramsButter
1 cupMilk
1 Egg, beaten
1 tspNutmeg
1/2 cupWalnuts, chopped
Procedures:
1Combine sugar,and sifted flour, baking powder, and salt.
2Rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.press half the mixture into a well greased 20cm square pan.
3Dissolve baking soda in milk, add egg and nutmeg and pour over remaining sugar and flour mixture.
4Mix well, then spoon into pan on top of pressed in mixture.
5sprinkle walnuts over.
6Bake in preheated oven at 350f for 1 hour.
7Allow to stand 15 minutes before turning out on to a wire rack to cool.
