Apple crumb coffeecake

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cupSugar, divided
1 tbspCornstarch
1/2 tspCinnamon
1/4 tspNutmeg
1 tbspLight corn syrup
2 cupApples, peeled and chopped
1/4 cupCurrants
2 1/2 cupFlour
3/4 cupMargarine, softened
1/4 tspSalt
1/2 tspBaking powder
1/2 tspBaking soda
1 Egg
3/4 cupButtermilk
-vegetable shortening spray
Procedures:
1In 2 quart saucepan, combine ?cup sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg.
2Add corn syrup, apples and currants.
3Cok over medium heat, stirring frequently until mixture thickens.
4Remove from heat and cool slightly.
5in a large mixing bowl, combine flour and remaining ?cup sugar.
6Using pastry blender, cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
7Remove ?cup and set aside for topping.
8to remaining mixture, stir in salt, baking powder and baking soda.
9Mix egg and buttermilk together.
10Add dry ingredients to egg-buttermilk mixture, stirring only until combined.
11spray a 9 inch round cake pan with vegetable spray.
12Spread 2/3 of the batter over bottom of pan.
13Spread 2/3 of the apple mixture over batter.
14Dot with remaining batter and apple mixture, spreading evenly.
15Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
16Bake at 350f for 45 minutes.
17Cool slightly before serving.
