Apple pandowdy (ojakangas)

Ingredients:
FILLING
4 Apples, tart
1/2 cupSugar
1/2 tspCinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp-Salt
1/4 cupMolasses or tightly packed b
1/2 cup-Water
PASTRY
1 cupFlour
1 1/2 tspBaking powder
1/4 tsp-Salt
1/2 cupButter or shortening
1/3 cupMilk
Procedures:
1Preheat oven to 450 °F.
2Lightly butter a shallow 1 ?to 2-quart baking dish.
3Pare the apples and slice.
4Place in the bottom of the baking dish.
5Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon, and ?teaspoon salt.
6Mix molasses ands water and pour over the apples.
7In a mixing bowl, combineflour, baking powder,and ?teaspoon salt.
8Cut in butter or shortening, until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
9Add milk and mix until dough holds together in a ball.
10On a lightly floured board, roll out dough to a thickness of about 1/3 inch to fit the top of the casserole.
11Place over apples.
12Cut vents in the top.
13Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until golden.
