Ingredients:
2 cupMilk
5 tbspSugar
5 tbspShortening
2 tbspSalt
2 Envelopes Active Dry Yeast
2 cupWarm Water (105-115 degree)
6 cupAll-Purpose Flour
2 quartVegetable Oil
Cinnamon Sugar
Procedures:
1Scald milk; add sugar, shortening, & salt.
2Cool to lukewarm.
3sprinkle yeast onto warm water in lg.
4Bowl.
5Add milk mixture & 2 cups flour; beat until smooth.
6Stir in enough additional flour to make stiff dough.
7turn dough out onto a lightly floured board; kneed until smooth & elastic, about 8-10 min. place in a greesed bowl, turning to grease top.
8Cover & let rise in a warm place, until double in size, about 1 hour.
9divide dough into 6-8 balls.
10Roll each out in the form of an elephant"s ear.
11heat oil to 375 degrees.
12Deep fry elephant"s ears, one at a time, for about 3-5 min. on each side or until golden brown.
13Serve hot, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
14Makes 6-8.
