Ingredients:
| | TART SHELL | | 1 1/2
| cup | Flour, all-purpose | | 3/4
| tsp | Dried thyme | | 1/4
| tsp | Salt | | 1/4
| cup | Butter, chilled & cut into | | | . small pieces | | 1/4
| cup | Vegetable shortening | | 4
| | -6 Tbsp cold water | | | FILLING | | 2
| tbsp | Butter | | 2
| | Red delicious apples, cored | | | . and thinly sliced | | 2
| | Golden delicious apples | | | . cored & thinly sliced | | 1
| | Onion, thinly sliced | | 1
| cl | Garlic, minced | | 3/4
| tsp | Salt |

Procedures:
| 1 | Preheat the oven to 425°F. | | 2 | Combine the flour, thyme and salt. | | 3 | Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the butter and shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal. | | 4 | Add water, 1 tbsp at a time, until the dough begins to come together. | | 5 | Form into disk; chill for 15 minutes. | | 6 | For the filling, in a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. | | 7 | Add the apples, onion, garlic and salt. | | 8 | Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are golden, about 15 minutes. | | 9 | On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12x16 -inch rectangle. | | 10 | Transfer to a baking sheet. | | 11 | Spoon the filling onto the shell to within 1 ?inches of the edges. | | 12 | Fold the edges over the filling to form a border. | | 13 | Bake for 15 to 20 minutes |
