Ingredients:
1/2 Pound french bread, torn
-Into 1-inch pieces
4 Ounces fresh or dried figs
-Into fourths
1 1/2 cupMilk
1 cupWhipping (heavy) cream
1/4 cupMargarine or butter
1/2 cupSugar
3 Eggs
1 tspVanilla
2 tbspSugar
Procedures:

2Heat oven to 350 degrees.
3Grease square baking dish, 8 x 8 x 2 inches.
4Sprinkle bread pieces and figs evenly in dish.
5Heat milk, whipping cream and margarine over medium heat until margarine is melted and milk is hot.
6Beat ?cup sugar, the eggs and vanilla in 4-cup measure or medium bowl.
7Stir in milk mixture.
8Pour over bread pieces and figs.
9Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar.
10Place dish in pan of very hot water (1 inch deep).bake 40 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted 1 inch from edge comes out clean.
11Serve warm with sweetened whipped cream, if desired.
