Ingredients:
2 1/2 cupCake flour, sifted
2 tspBaking Powder
1/4 tspSalt
1 tbspLemon rind, grated
2/3 cupButter, or shortening
1 1/2 cupSugar
3 ea Eggs, unbeaten
6 tbspLemon juice
3 tbspWater
Procedures:
1Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt and sift.
2Together three times.
3Add lemon rind to butter.
4And cream thoroughly; add sugar gradually and cream together until light and flfy.
5Add eggs, one at a time beating thoroughly after each.
6Add flour, alternately with combined lemon juice and water, a small amount at a time beating after each addition until smooth.
7Bake in two greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven (375 °F).

9Spread luscious lemon frosting (see recipe) between layers and on top and sides of cake.
