| 1 | Soak and cook beans according to directions. |

| 3 | Drain pears, reserving pear syrup. |
| 4 | Fry 4 slices bacon. |
| 5 | Drain and break into pieces. |
| 6 | Saute onion in bacon fat. |
| 7 | Add with fried bacon to beans and place in buttered casserole. |
| 8 | Combine ?cup pear syrup with molasses, vinegar, garlic and remaining seasonings. |
| 9 | Pour over beans and mix thoroughly. |
| 10 | Cover and bake at 300 °F for 2 hours, stirring gently from time to time and adding more pear syrup if needed. |
| 11 | Place pear halves over beans, spooning liquid from casserole over the top. |
| 12 | Top each pear half with ?slice bacon. |
| 13 | Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes longer. |
| 14 | Makes 6 to 8 servings. |
