Hearty pear & bean bake

Ingredients:
1 lbsIdaho Red beans
29 ozCan Bartlett pear halves
8 sliceBacon
1 medOnion, sliced
3 tbspMolasses
2 tbspVinegar
1 Clove garlic, minced
1 tspSalt
2 tbspPrepared mustard
1/4 tspCloves
1/4 tspPepper
Procedures:
1Soak and cook beans according to directions.
2Drain.
3Drain pears, reserving pear syrup.
4Fry 4 slices bacon.
5Drain and break into pieces.
6Saute onion in bacon fat.
7Add with fried bacon to beans and place in buttered casserole.
8Combine ?cup pear syrup with molasses, vinegar, garlic and remaining seasonings.
9Pour over beans and mix thoroughly.
10Cover and bake at 300 °F for 2 hours, stirring gently from time to time and adding more pear syrup if needed.
11Place pear halves over beans, spooning liquid from casserole over the top.
12Top each pear half with ?slice bacon.
13Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes longer.
14Makes 6 to 8 servings.
