Penn dutch liver dumplings

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbsLiver
1 Large onion, diced
1 tbspButter OR
1 tbspOther shortening
2 quartBread crumbs
2 Egg, well beaten
1/2 cupFlour
Salt & pepper
Procedures:
1Put the liver through a meat chopper.
2(beef liver may be used).
3Fry the onion in the shortening with the bread crumbs.
4Combine the liver and the eggs and mix well.
5Add the onion and bread crumbs.
6Season to taste.
7Stir in enough flour (using more than ?cup if necessary) to make a batter stiff enough to drop from spoon.
8Drop from a tablespoon into a kettle of hot broth or soup and cover kettle tightly.
9Cook for 30 minutes.
10Shake pan frequently to prevent sticking
